From its bicameral legislature to how a bill becomes a law, the legislative branch is bar-none the most “powerful” branch of government. I want you to go to the official website of the National Constitution Center at: www.constitutioncenter.org Once there, go to the top link “Read the Constitution.” Click on it and read Article I of the U.S. Constitution. Be sure to use a current bill/law that is currently on the docket or has just passed as part of your explanation. Be thorough and concise and make sure you explain the different processes and procedures between the House and the Senate, as well as the role of the President and the Courts. ******************************************************************************** Part C – Executive and Judicial Branch The executive and judicial branches of our government are outlined in Article II and III of the U.S. Constitution, respectively. Please write out the question and then put the answer at the end of the sentence. 1. Jim Crow was a civil rights activist during the 1960s. 2. The grandfather clause was used to bar whites from voting even if they were literate and had paid their poll tax. 3. There have been no more constitutional amendments to remove voting restrictions since the Nineteenth Amendment allowed women to vote. 4. The Twenty-sixth Amendment increased the voting age from 18 to 21. 5. Political efficacy plays a role in voter turnout only in older voters. 6. High-stimulus elections occur only during periods of realignment. 7. Political alienation is confined to third parties. 8. Currently, individuals may give up to $7,500 per candidate in each primary and general election, but the total for each federal election year may NOT exceed $30,000. 9. Once there, view to the left under the tab “Issues.” Scroll down and look at all the major issues. Select two issues that you find interesting, and then scroll down and read about the “Latest” news on these issues. I want you to then write a two-paragraph synopsis comparing and contrasting the two issues chosen. Be sure that you give your personal view on the issues. ********************************************************************************** Part F – Religion and the U.S. Constitution This nation is NOT a Christian nation, but rather a nation where one has the right to worship how they please and exercise that right without government harassment (see 1st amendment). Article VI is also clear about the no-religious test clause, which many in the clergy, especially, often overlook. With this said. The Court has also been consistent over the years to make sure government does not entangle with this freedom, from Jefferson’s “separation of church and state,” to religious organizations receiving taxexempt status. Moreover, I could have chosen any Article to critical examine religion and politics, especially as it pertains to this nation not being a Christian nation. *As a Christian, Believer, and a person who has been a success because of my relationship with God through prayer, I was nonetheless taught wrong growing up and now I understand the premise. Still, I am personally all of the above, but now more tolerant and understanding of other viewpoints; especially the concept of religious freedom and why I am thankful that this country does not endorse a specific religion. As such, please check out and first read this article: http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/02/living/america-christian-nation/ Then, please read this article: http://www.libertymagazine.org/article/the-myth-of-achristian-nation Finally, then read any other Article in the following periodical: Liberty Magazine (be sure to do a search for “Christian nation.” http://www.libertymagazine.org/ After reading these three articles, please write a three to five paragraph essay about the role of religion in our society, especially Christianity. Be clear in your thesis and make sure that you both cite your sources and give your opinion. ********************************************************************************* Part G – The 2020 Presidential Election -We just experienced and witnessed the 2020 presidential election last November. In a few paragraphs, tell me the overall popular vote results in the U.S. and Georgia, the electoral college numbers, what happens next, and your overall feelings. Don’t hold back and your opinion will not be censored or judged. ********************************************************************* Okay, that should do it!
