Identify one model. Discuss the model and its theoretical underpinnings. Do you believe this model to be effective? Why or why not? M5 Disc 2 – Solution-Focused Directions: For this discussion, read the attached article. This article reviews the basic theory behind Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. The author discusses the theory’s pros and cons. Begin your reading at the paragraph that begins, “SFBT assumes that “solutions lie in…” and read until the paragraph that begins, “Perhaps the most radical assumption of the SFBT…” Discuss your thoughts about SFBT. Discuss examples where SFBT might be useful in your personal life. What limitations if any exist with this theoretical model? Be specific. Give examples. Running Head: DISCUSSION 1 Human Service Model Discussion 1 D. Maldonado Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a type of brain stimulation therapy that uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate a person’s nerve cells by improving symptoms of mental health disorders such as depression. It is normally recommended to people with depression who have not benefitted from medication and therapy. It has been said that it is a scientifically supported option for many individuals, the machine stimulates the prefrontal cortex region of the brain, and normally takes about 40 minutes, and 30 sessions to do its job. TMS is an FDA-approved treatment and recently (June 2019), the Brainsway Deep TMS device was approved for the treatment of OCD (Anxiety & Depression Association of America,2021) I do believe this model Is effective, because it has been proven to lower the core symptoms of depression. It also works quickly, and many individuals report changes in mood within the first week of treatment, plus is not something you’ll need every day like antidepressants. “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).” Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) | Anxiety and Depression Association of America, ADAA, 6 Apr. 2021, adaa.org/finding-help/transcranial-magneticstimulation. Running Head: DISCUSSION 1 SFBT. Respond to a peer Ab Dix I personally really like Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). While reading the article, I was thinking of some students that I’ve been working with and how this could benefit them. I enjoy how it recognizes there’s a problem, but it shrugs its shoulders at the problem and moves on to give attention to solutions. It’s a way to encourage people when they feel very negative about themselves and their choices and don’t feel they can change because they haven’t so far. I think we all need positive ways to think through our issues and choices sometimes. I think this is a great method for me to use in those moments when I’m upset with myself for making a mistake multiple times. I can shift my thinking to a positive solution that I can practice daily to come naturally when it’s actually needed. I think sometimes people do need to speak about their past, though. That’s one limitation. A client with a lot of trauma to work through may need to spend more time on their negative past to remember things that could benefit their therapy. In those situations, not allowing time for those negative past times could make the client feel like you don’t have time for them, you don’t think their history is important, and they may not trust that you will be able to truly help them because you won’t truly listen to them. …
