The key duty of the reservations department is to sell every available room at the most profitable rate possible. In order to accomplish this task, the reservations department must be able to anticipate future room availability, must be aware of existing reservations and their sources, must have effective procedures for handling telephone reservation requests, must coordinate with the sales department on convention or group reservations and must adhere strictly to policy on guaranteed reservations. It must have an efficient reservation processing system that is flexible enough to handle reservation revisions and must provide written confirmation of reservations.
